Disable Windows Tour In Xp

When you install Windows Xp Home or Professional Editions, then the first thing you observe is the Windows Tour. This keeps on popping up again and again till you complete the tour.
Windows Tour is a service which was developed so as to make people comfortable with Xp as the interface provided had some new features. But this became a bit of a pain when we were not able to stop it at any point of time. Hiding it in the notification area didn’t help too much. This tour was then taken off in Windows Xp SP1 and SP2. But in case if you are still using the Xp home or Professional editions then you can try to disable it using the Registry Settings. Before performing this make sure you backup your registry.
Here is what you need to do.

  1. Go to Start –> Run, and type “regedit“.
  2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour
  3. Right Click on Tour and create a new DWORD value.
  4. Name the value as RunCount and give its value as 0.
This was the registry setting which i found was existent in Windows Xp SP1 and SP2 versions, and creating them in the earlier versions of it help in stopping the Windows Tour.

Today downloading your favorite videos is a necessity, but getting them in the correct format required is a difficult task. You either need to install some software or need to upload it to a website that will provide you the conversion of the video into the desired format, but even the best website may not be able to provide you with all the formats. There are number of sites and software’s providing the downloading and conversion of videos. I have searched for some of the online services which will let you download the video in the format you desire. Here they are.

  1. Anjo.to – This service lets you download videos from YouTube, Google video and other service providers in different formats. It allows you to download video in FLV, 3Gp, MP4, AVI, MOV and MP3 formats. The other great feature of this service is the Multiload feature, you can provide links for multiple videos and decide a format, and a mail would be send to you containing the links.
  2. MediaConverter – Another site that provides video conversion. For this site you might need to register (free) and you would be able to use some of the premium services. Not only the video formats but other audio and document formats are also supported. This site also provides a downloadable converter for free and a video downloader which is available in free and paid versions.
  3. MovAvi – It is another good tool to download and convert videos. The link and the final format can be submitted, and you will receive a mail containing the downloadable link. The quality of the video delivered is also better than others.
  4. All2convert – This site allows you to upload videos and also give the URL’s as well. It gives you an option to convert it in mobile format, iPod format and the PC formats. The interface was really easy to use and a starter would find it easy to use.
  5. Video4iPod – As the name says, this site is specifically for iPod formats, and provides some good different formats. Video formats for iPod, PSP and mobiles are supported.
